4434 - CALIFORNIA EARTHQUAKE? - did you feel the ground shake?

-    4434  -  CALIFORNIA  EARTHQUAKE? -  did you feel the ground shake?  -    Fears grow over supervolcano that 'may swallow this entire US state' in apocalyptic eruption.  2 hours ago, Monday, April 15, 2024, fears are mounting over the potential eruption of a supervolcano in California, which has been dormant for hundreds of thousands of years.

-   The Long Valley Caldera, spanning 20 miles long, 11 miles wide, and 3,000 feet deep, has long been a source of concern for researchers due to its colossal size. It is one of the world's 20 known super volcanoes, earning a “VEI 8” classification on the eruption scale. The sheer magnitude of this volcano has led volcanologists to believe that crisis management would be virtually impossible should it erupt.

-

-   Despite not having erupted in 760,000 years, at least not to the extent that scientists fear, recent developments have only heightened these concerns. Scientists have noted the emergence of creeks and hot springs in the area, typically indicative of impending volcanic activity.

-

-   In the Science Channel's documentary, Secrets of the Underground, scientist Rob Nelson highlighted the alarming signs of possible volcanic activity.   And,  there are clues pointing towards an imminent eruption scattered throughout this valley, the site of the second largest explosive volcanic eruption in North America.

-

-  Nelson further remarked on the severity of a possible eruption from the volcano, labeling it an "existential threat to the millions of people living in the surrounding area".

-

-   The decade between 1970 and 1980 was marked by a stark increase in seismic activity in the region, causing quite a stir among research scientists. One significant observation during this period was a noticeable increase in the ground level, often linked with the buildup of magma.

-

-   Investigation of the site using remote sensing technology, “InSAR” revealed some unsettling geometry for the scientists. Geophysicist detected what is known as a "resurgent dome" near Mammoth Lakes, a town nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

-

-   The situation isn't yet worrisome, thankfully, as tests have shown that the liquid beneath the dome is "scattered", making a catastrophic event less likely at present.  We can say conclusively that there is no giant magma chamber below. But there are smaller satellite ones around the area.

-

-   This development comes shortly after authorities pre-emptively devised evacuation plans in anticipation of an imminent supervolcano eruption the first time such action has been taken in almost five centuries following the occurrence of a magnitude 4.0 earthquake in Italy.

-

-   In October, 2023, comprehensive plans were drafted in Italy for the large-scale evacuation of local residents, who've been living in constant fear due to the seemingly imminent eruption. Living under the shadow of Campi Flegrei near Naples, Italy, locals are desperate to prepare themselves adequately should the worst-case scenario unfold, particularly in light of recent scientific warnings.
