POPULATION - the state of affairs

-   2415 -  -  If you are living in a household as a married couple in America, you are in the minority.  Just as we have completed a society of 300,000,000 people, we have developed a culture departing form the traditional household that existed for the past 200 years.

--------------------------------- 2415  -  POPULATION  -  the state of affairs
-
-  2020 means we are completing a new census to learn who lives in the United States.   From the latest data, just as we have completed a society of 300,000,000 people, we have developed a culture departing form the traditional household that existed for the past 200 years.
-
-  49.7% of the 111,100,000 households in America in 2005 were married couples.
-
-  50.3% or 44,833,000 households are singles, single parents, unmarried parents or unmarried partners, widows, or those living alone.  Many of the singles live as unmarried couples because it simplifies their lives and saves them money on real estate.
-
-  5%, or 5,200,000 couples are unmarried, opposite sex partners.  413,000 were male couples, 363,000 were female couples, according to the census.
-
-  In New York, Manhattan 74% of those living together were not married.
-
-  In Mendocino County, just north of us, only 11% were not married.
-
-  In San Francisco 2% or the households are male couples ( excluding closet gays).
-
-  In 1930   89% of households were married couples, in 1990 it fell to 56%.
-
-  In 2004    1,500,000 babies were born to unmarried women (25% were teenagers).  On average over the last 6 years 650,000 babies are born each year to single mothers.  Few of these mothers have the resources to raise a child properly.
-
-  In 1996   5,000,000 families were on welfare under  “Aid to Families with Dependent Children” which generously lead to the growth of welfare headed families.    In 1996, the welfare system was modified to “Temporary Assistance for Needy Families” which mandated a maximum of 5 years on welfare.
-
-    By 2005 this resulted in the welfare rolls falling to 2,000,000 families.  A second factor contributing to this 60% decline in the welfare roll is the “Earned Income Tax Credit.”
-
-  Any serious effort to reduce welfare roles further, reducing families in poverty, must reduce the number of unwed mothers, the chief recipients of welfare.
-
-  The US is adding a person every 11 seconds to its population both by new born and by crossing the US border.  In 1915 we had 100,000,000 people, in 1966   200,000,000, in 2006  300,000,000.  Today were are the third most populous country in the world.  China first, then, India second.

-
-  In 1915 the immigrants came mostly from Germany (Detrick).  In 1967 mostly from Italy (Nardalillo).  In 2006 from Mexico (Gallegos).
-
-  The Average family in 1915 was 4.5 people,   3.3 in 1967,   2.6 in 2006.  Do you know any families with 60% of a kid?
-
-  In 1914   4,500,000 were over 65 years of age, in 1967   19,100,000, in 2006   77,800,000 are over 65.  Old people grew from 4.5% of the population to 12.4% of the population.  Their life expectancy grew from 54.5 years, to 77.8 years.
-
-  In 1915 23% of the women were working outside the home, 41% in 1967, and now 58% in 2006.
-
-   In 1915 we were driving 2,500,000 cars, in 1967   98,900,000 and in 2006   237,200,000 cars are on the road.  Almost equal to our population of driving age.
-
-  In 1915 the  most popular name for your kid was John and Mary, in 1967 it was Michael and Lisa, in 2006 it is Jacob and Emily.  We need to start a new fade, Michael, Megan, Nathan and Delaney.
-
-  It will be interesting to learn what the next 2020 census tells us about our population.  It certainly is changing.
