-------------------- 2528 - TEACHERS - how much should we pay?
-
- Let’s assume you have a son that is 10 years old and in the forth grade. He is learning to read and write as an independent, self-motivated, critical thinker who is able to express himself clearly. He has the ability to gather and use information from a variety of sources, including the internet.
-
- Your son develops the skills to allow independent problem solving using multiplication and division up to 3 digits. He uses estimation, reads temperatures, uses calculators and computers to solve problems. He adds and subtracts fractions and decimals with ease.
-
- He knows a little bit about geology, biology, astronomy, chemistry, and physics in the earth and space sciences. 50% of this learning is hands on lab work.
-
- He is introduced to the exploration and colonization of the United States, studying the American Revolution. Learns North American geography. Learns the roles of elected officials, economic trade-offs and the need for taxation. Has a handle on economic concepts of taxation, advertising, budgeting, and competition impacts on businesses.
-
- He becomes an advocate of his own personal health. Learns safety and how to prevent injuries and disease. Learns the health hazards of tobacco use.
-
- Gets physical education to advance motor skills, enhance social skills, foster participation and teamwork.
-
- Continues to develop music and singing skills. Introduced to tints and shades in art class to develop creativity in realistic and abstract art. He will be able to use internet resources in this study.
-
- He will become proficient in proper keyboarding skills. He will learn personal responsibility in using technology. He will use word processors, spread sheet calculations, and data bases to create multi-media projects. He will be able to use search engines and software in problem solving.
-
- How much is this proficiency in your 4th grader worth?
-
- The great news is that you only pay 5% of that because you share the cost with 20 other parents. If it is worth $500 a month to you then the teacher should be making $10,000 a month for 10 months = $100,000 per year.
-
- Assuming property taxes pay for plant and equipment. Shouldn’t we be paying the person responsible for delivering these proficiency results in your child a higher salary?
-
- Shouldn’t we pay for the value and contribution these skills and motivations in a 10 year old give to the family ,the community and to society.
-
- Forth grade teachers deserve a raise. Don’t you think.
-
- A proud father.
