AVIAN FLU - Avian Flu review written 8-14-2005.

-   2672  AVIAN  FLU  -  Avian Flu review written 8-14-2005.  President George Bush told us this week ( 8-1-2005 ) that the Avian Flu is coming.  That it could likely be a pandemic, which is an epidemic that affects the whole world.  An epidemic is any disease that affects many individuals at the same time spreading from person to person.  (This Review is re-Reviewed in March , 2020 , and we are facing a new pandemic.)

-  -  Evolution on Earth was possible because cosmic rays from outer space coming from billions of lightyears away pass through the DNA and cause mutations.  Some mutations are good, men from monkeys for example.
-
-   Although some would say that is not an improvement.  Good in this case means good for survival.  Some mutations are bad.  Evolution works because good mutations survive and bad ones don’t.
-
-  The problem with mutations that occur in a flu virus is that ALL ARE BAD.  The reason is our bodies need time to build up immunities and a new strain of virus will have no immunities in our bodies in the beginning.  We are vulnerable.  The virus may survive but we may not.
-
-  Mutations in the flu virus are occurring every year.  About every 10 years a dramatic mutation occurs.  This is when the flu gets a name, like Avian Flu, or Spanish Flu, or Asian Flu, etc.  About 31 of these have been documented since 1580, an average of ever 14 years, a dramatic mutation has occurred.
-
-  Here we are in March, 18, 2020, with a pandemic shutting the United States down for the Coronavirus.  It started in China in November and has spread to Europe and the United States starting in January this year, 2020.  I am currently in lock down (quarantine) in my house even though I have no symptoms or exposure that I know of.
-
-  Going back in history a  flu outbreak occurred in 1918, during World War I, that was actually worse than the war.  It started in Asia and very few people were immune to the virus.  Flu spreads through the air.  It is frighteningly easy to get infected.  Just breath in the wrong place and you’ve got it.  If you breath in air the sick people cough or sneeze out you’ve got it.  If you touch a doorknob or a shopping cart then scratch hour nose or rub your eyes, you’ve got it.
-
-  The most dangerous place to be is in a crowd ,or, in an airplane.  In the month of October, 1918, 200,000 American’s died of the Asian flu.  Churches, theaters, taverns closed their doors.  Even funerals were limited to 15 minutes.  When a family member got sick the whole family got it.
-
-  In September, 1918, the flu spread from the East Coast to the West Coast.  San Francisco and Seattle passed city laws requiring people in public to wear a gauze mask.  In Prescott, Arizona they made it illegal to shake hands.  Whole towns guaranteed themselves, forbidding trains to even stop as they went through town.
-
-  By 1919, 500,000 Americans had died of what Americans called the Spanish Flu, because they thought that was where it came from.  But, it didn’t.
-
----------------------   Germany, France, and the UK had 600,000 deaths.
-
-----------------------    Italy had 500,000.
-
-----------------------   Mexico lost 10% of its population.
-
-----------------------   The South Pacific lost 20%.
-
-----------------------    In India 12,000,000 people died.
-
-----------------------    Researchers estimated that the total deaths around the world could have been as much as 50,000,000.
-
-----------------------    In world war I 10,000,000 people died.  So the Spanish Flu was 5 times worse.
-
-----------------------    In world war II 45,000,000 people died.  200,000 died in Hiroshima alone.
-
-  The most recent pandemic occurred in 1968.  We are overdue for another outbreak.
-
-   (This Review was written in 2005.  Today, 2020,  we are experiencing the Coronavirus pandemic).
-
-   The cosmic ray bombardment has not let up and these charged particles passing through everything have randomly and statistically caused a flu virus to mutate, somewhere.  A pandemic does not affect just people but all the other animals can also be devastated by it.  All living things are vulnerable.
-
-   It is evolutionary survival at work.  Evolutionary survival is not the behavior of the individual, but the behavior of the individual gene that struggles to survive.
-
-  An interesting twist of fate occurred in the movie “ War of the Worlds” where Tom Cruise was immune to the viruses but the aliens were not and they all died in the end.  Sorry, hope I didn’t spoil the movie for you.
-
-  In adopting the theory of evolution, the theory of no-God goes way, way beyond the limits of evidence.
-
-  Let’s trust in God, but let’s be prepared for God helps those who help themselves.  The Avian Flu is coming, ready or not.  Here we are in 2020 and the Coronavirus is here, ready or not.
